Las Playas Negras is a historic, well-known, and representative place of Santa Rosalía, having its own song called "Las Playas Negras" created by Los Cadetes De Linares.
This beach became black sand due to slag, where it is not black sand, but it is slag.
The way the slag arrived on the shores of Santa Rosalía was because of El Chute and La Fundición. When the slag arrived at the chute where it was stored for a time, it was sent by ships to the deepest point of the Sea of Cortez. The French sent the slag to the seabed to have more space in El Chute to store more slag, but they did not foresee that this would create pollution.
