A town with
french soul
Santa Rosalía is a historic mining town that was founded in 1885 with the arrival of the French company Compagne Du Boleo, dedicated to copper mining, which was later melted at the famous Old Smelter. The copper smelting generated waste known as "slag." Thanks to copper mining, Santa Rosalía became the second town in all of Mexico to have electricity and a telephone network. Porfirio Diaz helped with this by starting to sell the copper produced to the French under the condition that they support Santa Rosalía, and that's how they brought electricity and the telephone network to this place.
